A. Wayne Readinger

A. Wayne Readinger, 93, of Rockland Township, passed away on December 10, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the husband of Helen M. (Deisher) Readinger, they had been married 68 years on April 7th.

Wayne was born on July 6, 1920 in Rockland Township. He was the son of the late Austin B. Readinger and Stella Mae (Reider) Readinger.

He graduated from Oley High School class of 1937. A member of Christ Mertz Lutheran Church, Dryville, where he served as superintendent of Sunday School for many years. Wayne was a horticulturist and owner of Readinger’s Orchard in Rockland Township. His orchard won many awards at many fairs. He also served as a Pennsylvania inspector for dog law enforcement officers. He was a very active member of the Grange serving as past Master of the Fleetwood Grange # 1839, past master of Pomona Grange of Berks County and State Master of the Pennsylvania Grange. He was a past president of Berks County Fersommling. Wayne served for 20 years as a supervisor of the Reading Fair and a past director of Pa State Association of County Fairs. He also had been a former Trustee of Penn State University. Wayne was very out spoken, who loved to garden and be with his grandchildren Surviving is his wife Helen, three daughters Jean E. (Readinger) Reinholz, Fleetwood, Anna L. (Readinger) Miller of Garnet Valley, PA and Doris Ann (Readinger) Willard of Reading. Other survivors include four grandchildren , eight great grandchildren and five step grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday the16th at 11:00AM from Christ Mertz Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood. A viewing will be Monday morning from 9:30AM to 11:00AM from the church. Contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund of Christ Mertz Lutheran Church.
